    You should

You should have it tuned up. Nozzle, filter, strainer, and a brush and vac.

How much fuel in the tank? I would put some additive in and have it topped of with fresh fuel.

I would look at the chimney , real close. 5 years is a long time ....... critters may have moved in.

    Top O' the page....

    Find a professional.

There's just too much to list that a pro would do, and he would do it SAFELY. Don't take chances. Like the FRAM oil filter guy used to say...You can pay me now, or pay me later.

I have no reason to lie. This will be money WELL spent. Chris

    What the other

What the other guys said plus. Is the boiler drained now? Was it ever drained and could it have frozen? These are things a pro will be looking for.

    Good Luck,

I have an old coal boiler

and decided that I was going to burn some paper in it last fall after having not used it in probably 10 years.

I lit the paper off and got the whole place filled up with really stinking smoke.

Whaen I got it out, I discovered that the chimney was completely clogged... probably about a drywall joint compound bucket full.

The only thing I can figure it was, was stuff that had collected on the flue liners, and fell off during the period of non use. The flue liners were clean as a whistle.

So like Bll Nye said... look in the chimney.
