Re-piping the Hartford loop.

Yes, it's working fine. I know it should be knocking, but it's quiet. The water line is low enough that it fills the risers on each side of the loop, but not the nipple. I am guessing that steam comes down the equalizer and meets the standing water in the far side of the loop. It can't push the water anywhere because of the check valves in the wet return.

re-piping the hartford loop.
I have a one pipe steam system that is 10 years old. When it was installed, the Hartford loop was not re-piped for the new boiler. Therefore, the top of the loop is 1" above the water line. There are check valves in the wet returns and I don't seem to be getting any knocking. Should I re-pipe the loop below the water line or leave it alone?0 -
Is it working ok?0 -
leave it
if it has been ok for ten years ,leave it be. by rights it should be bangin' like a machine gun.0
