finding new steam boiler that can run during power outage (cont.

Thanks to Shawn and Mike for the reply to my 3-2-07 subject related to emergency power outage running of a steam boiler in the winter. The problem with using a millivolt valve system is that it voids the warrenty of the boiler and does nothing to turn on the booster blower. This is where it is a little probematic. To run the burners without using the blower might cause the boiler tank or manifold to overheat. That is what concerns me. The use of a computer "battery box" to provide power will be of little use after 5 minutes of running the blower motor, computer board, and the control valve (I found this in a related 'Wall' article). Does anyone else have any ideas? [Still dont like the idea of burst steam and water pipes in the winter when a ice storm hits the power grid]. **Thanks to Dan (and friends) for creating this forum**

    go solar

PV panels and a golf cart battery or two. even in cloudy weather you will charge batteries.

need to find your total power needs first of course.

you also need to determine how many hours a day this stuff runs, a good educated guess is good enough.

    E-power

I still say... for the 'average joe' an automatic power source is the best option. Or a genset that is set up & ready to go... pull the cord, plug in the necessaries.
