    RTI pex fitting

Came across a radiant installation that is about 8-9 years old. Looking for a coupling to repair a break in the 3/8 pex. Manufacturer is RTI and the pex is SDR9. Application is in-floor heating. What can I used to make repair? Can't find info on this manufacturer. The connectors at the headers are some type of compression fitting, so I asumme the coupling will probably need to be compression as well??

  • easiest is

get a Watts Cinch Coupling kit and borrow a cinch tool.

    works great.

Otherwise, any manufacture, Wirsbo, Watts, Roth etc, coupling will work. Either with nuts and inserts or the cinch style.

    Thank you!

I have the Wirsbo expander tool, just gotta get the 3/8 head. So this pex has memory? Does all pex have memory for expansion fittings?
  • NO EXPANDER ON RTI!

WHile it is true that Wirsbo bought RTI and then shut dow the operation. The RTI tube is NOT HePex and NEVER WAS.

The RTI tube is not rated for the Wirsbo expander tool. The O2 barrier will actually put little cracks in the tube. Use a cinch clamp or a mechanical coupling (read NUT FERREL AND COMP RING)

    Wheels is right

I used to sell RTI and they did not recommend using any expansion type fittings on their tube. You can use a standard nut and ferrule or just an insert and crimp ring.

    RTI 8-9 Years ago

There is a possibility that the tubing at that time was a pex-a. You might want to look for any markings on the tubing that refer to "PEX-EP".

If it does have those markings, Radiant Technology (RTI) had distributed pex-a. If it says anything about "Hewing", then it is a pex-c and do not use the Uponor expansion fittings and rings.

    Hope that helps.

Thank you (everyone) for the help. So it sounds like a cinch clamp is the way to go, unless I can find a coupling with nuts and ferrels that will fit.
