Combination System in France

Try contacting H.S. Tarm, a Danish company that sells various wood-burning boilers. They have specific recommendations for matching storage tanks to their line of boilers. This may at least point you in the right direction.- Timken Kid

    Combination System in France

    Dear Forum,

I’m an American living in Paris, France trying to build a solar/green home and basically getting beaten down at each step.

I would very much like to find someone who has previously installed a combination system that uses a solar hot water panel and wood stove to heat my home’s domestic hot water and radiant floor. In the past I have paid hundreds of dollars to “experts” who in the end send me some worthless jpeg showing a picture of the general idea of high mass solar heating. What I really need is a part list showing brand names with specific sizes of tanks, panels, pump strength, etc.

I realize living in France is a geographical challenge, but am hoping there are perhaps some German parts I could get that are supplied world wide or I could at least get solid answers about how big my tank should be. One supplier over here said I need at least a 1400 liters (370 gallon) tank for my system and I am suspicious he just wants to sell me a huge tank because he doesn’t understand my radiant floor is sitting on 105 cubic yards of compacted sand insulated with 2,36 inches of Dow blueboard—that’s where I’ll store my heat…if I can just find someone to get me a valid part list and installation schemata.

Other numbers and stats for the house:
Located near Rambouillet, France about (about 4800 heating degree days)
900 square feet on two levels for 1800sq feet
    House faces due south
Built with xella’s aerated cement block: walls are 12 inches thick R=19
Roof insulated with 6 inches of extruded polystyrene (trilatte)
Between Attic floor and first floor ceiling 6 inches of shredded cork insulation
All double glazed windows will have wood shutters
No basement, first floor is a 7 1/2 inch slab
    4 zones REHAU PEX 15mm (19/32in):
    Kitchen-295 ft, Dinning 314 ft, Living-446, Entrance-164
Stove: MORVAN 20 with 13KW of “puissance thermique” heating power
According to net, 13 kW equals 44,382 Btu’s

If there are any technicians out there with the real scoop, please drop me a line at s_morkin@hotmail.com. If I can get something of value via a phone conversation or email exchange I am willing to pay an honest price for an honest consultant.

Viessmann has everything tha you are looking for and their engineers will size your solar system for you. I think Buderus is starting to get in the solar biz also.
Viessmann has boilers thst run on wood and pellets. I would try them first.
