Greenwood Furnaces (Wood Boilers)

Wondering how many cords of wood or pellent did you go thru.... With them 16 kids, I'm sure they helped feed the outdoor boiler at how many times on daily basis?

We installed our first one last winter. The start-up was in late Feb, so they really didn't have much time to give it a real test. I'm supposing everything went well this winter as we have not heard of any problems.

The unit fed 4 zones of radiant heating and the domestic hot water for a family that had 16 kids. They have been featured on The Discovery Channel several times.

The boiler seemed to really be a really quality piece of equipment. Let me know if you have other questions.

The jury is still out at my house when it comes to Greenwood.

Dissatisified with the large cracks in the firebox that developed almost immediatly. There is no ash removal drawer, though if you let it burn down, there is minimal ash. I am feeding the beast at 10PM and 5AM plus at least once in between.

The biggest concern is that customer service is a joke. There is a guy there that is in charge of customer service, and if you go to mother earth news and the like type web sites you will see him post about what a great hydronic furnace it is without disclosing the fact he is a vice president! I believe there are like 5 people that work there.

I looked it over at the AHR show

it looked to be well built. Not the typical two chamber gasification principle that I am use to seeing?

I'b be curious to see how it stacks up on the new EPA emission scale.

Here is another brand I think worthy of consideration, built in Dunkirk NY.

I'll try to touch base with the Duggars and see how their wood consumption was for this year. The radiant heating was on the first floor only, which was 3,500 sq. ft. The house had foam insulation in the walls and bottom of the roof deck, good windows, etc.

The have 90% natural gas furnaces for back-up heat, as well as a single high efficiency gas water heater.

The older boys were in charge of cutting wood and keeping the boiler fired. As Jim has mentioned, it would certainly be better if the wood was seasoned. I do know that once the fire was going well, the flue was clear---not smokey like a lot that you see.

    EKO

Are you happy with your EKO/Orlan, hot rod? I'm leaning towards an Orlan 60.
