you can also adjust the damprs on the baseboard to help balance it out ---close off the hot room some then open the cold room and nothing really fixes itself -- your heat load was decreased

First room in hydronic loop colder

I had a new boiler(Burnham) with a SuperStor installed for a 3 zone house. One of the zones loops through 3 second story bedrooms, and I've noticed that the first room in the loop feels colder than the last room in the loop. The thermostat is located in the last room in the loop. Any thoughts on root cause? I have been playing with adjusting the thermostat a few degrees, which brings the first room to a "normal" temp, but the last room becomes a little warm. I haven't gone to the extreme of actually measuring the air temp, but can feel a noticable difference between the first bedroom in the loop and the other 2.

    A few thoughts

    1) The room with the thermostat has more radiation in proportion to it's heat loss; it is satisfied sooner before the other rooms (which may be under-radiated) are.

    2) The actual flow direction may not be what you think; the thermostat room may also be the first served. Would not be the first time that has happened.

Without knowing each room's heat loss, radiation per room and actual flow direction, it is all just a guess from here.
  • or do you have

Or do you have copper finned tubing radaitors in the "cold" rooms while other are the good old standing cast iron radiators? Having them both on the same zone will have a different comfort level...

Thanks for the info. The entire zone is baseboard, and the room in question is the smallest of the 3 rooms in the zone. It seems to have "corrected" itself in recent days. I wonder if it was something as simple as the first day or 2 of the new system running and working out the kinks, such as purging all air through the spirovent, etc.
Anyway, the problem seems to be ok now, but I'll monitor it over the remaining winter weeks.

    Not realy

One reason it would have seemed to fix it self has the outside temp warmed up about 15 or 20 deg? if so that room will be cold again. now lets look at the bb. I have be called to cold rooms only to find 4 ft of bb. In a room of 18x 14 ft the room was redone the cast iron rad was removed and replaced with 4 ft of bb.
    (2) found 15 ft of bb. on out side wall but it only hade 5 ft of heating elment.
or this is one of my favorates the room has more bb. than it needs but the fins were installed on their side .the holes must run from top to bottom not side to side. other things not to be over looked do you have the front covers on ? is the bottom coved with carpet? no air flow in bottom = little heat in room. Is the bb. blocked by drapes?or furnature?

    Good info

    William,
Thanks for that great info. Several things I haven't thought of as possibilities. I will investigate a little more.
