While considering the choices for a new boiler I haven't run across any pictures of boiler replacements for one pipe steam with dry returns so I'm not sure what work will actually go on down there in my basement. I've seen pictures on the library of steam systems with wet returns but none with the dry returns. Would an equalizer line be needed even if there were dry returns? Maybe some on you guys have some install pics to flaunt0 -
Here's one
that had a dry return and no main vent . We added one near the boiler . We always pipe in an equalizer and Hartford Loop for good measure .0 -
Here's one built
from the ground up.
All of it is BRAND NEW.

Very cool. What was there before?0 -
Oil fired
hot air system.
Before that, there was a steam system but it was removed to make way for the hot air system. Probably in the late 50's.
New owners wanted the steam system back so........we brought it back to them.

Old Vapor system with loop seals
Not the best shot, but dry returns and Hartford loop. As Ron says, they can't hurt. We like a little reservoir for the returning mud and muck that comes back...I'd rather have a repository that I can easily service, than have it go back in to the boiler. Equalizer always - THAT is part of the boiler. Mad Dog

I like the piping painted black, nice touch. What is the copper pipe shooting off the riser to the bottom of the boiler?0 -
beautiful new steam
very nice. gives me a warm feeling inside. Helps dissolve the pain I feel when I see them torn out.
Thanks.

Pipe off riser
Really nice job but I hope that is not the pressure relief valve mounted horizontally off of the side of the riser.
