Steam to hydronic conversion.

he's running the risk of leaks. Hot-water runs at over 10 times the pressure of steam, and this WILL find any weak point.

Cracked radiators usually aren't a problem on a steam system. I'd be interested to know how that happened.

I'd restore the steam system. If he has to replace radiators, and is planning to insulate, weatherstrip etc (which he should) the new radiators can be smaller. How much smaller would be determined by a heat-loss calculation.

    Steam to hydronic conversion.

A friend of mine just bought a house with a new steam boiler. He gutted the walls and celings. He tells me there are multiple problems with the steam piping and radiators. ie. cracked radiators, leaky valves and several capped and removed radiators. I am curious if conversion to hydronic with all new piping is a viable option. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Dean
