Viega???????????

White Paper for submission to ASHRAE.

Based on what we know, the fittings can be problematic. Brands, machines and the definition of what is or isn't a "leak," is still under review.

The manufacturer's manner of dealing with the problem and supporting documentation to that end, suggests other connecting methods should be considered.

    There or not there

What is your experience with the Viega Propress fittings?

Are they there when you want them to be?

    Search for a thread tittled \"Press Fittings\"

I think that's the one (really long too). If not others might be able to help with the tittle.

After you read that - and the company response - You are free to decide.

can say what they want.I've installed thousands both Viega and Elkhart using a corded REMS tool, never a leak other than operator error.

    Different configuration

The pro press has a ring of copper outside of the o-ring and the Elkhart does not. Any difference in the way you press them, different tools?

    Weezbo and Ken

Weesy, any copper on a condesate line is bad news.

Ken, How many others came out on the LONG thread to show the problems they have had with the product ???

I have installed thousands of fitting with no failure to date.

    ProPress

We sell the line carry - everything they make up to 4". Expensive but a big labor savings. No FLux, No Gas, No Torch, No Burns, No Smoke Permits,No Leaks, etc.

Easy to use. Absolutely love training contractors on the job. We have a loaner tool we let them use for 1 day - they pay for the fittings. We provide someone to help train them on site at the job. Usually convert 7 out of 8 contractors who try it. Makes for a beautiful boiler room.

Nothing like a 4" line repair with water flowing out of it. Check out the pics. Note The pipe should be cleaned and reamed before connections are made.

    ProPress Ridgid vs Elkhart

Elkhart and Ridgid/Viega are pressed the same way with the same jaws. There is a relatively new line of large diameter fittings called XL-C. 21/2" -4", - are made out of copper. Somewhat less expensive but require a different set of jaws. Elkahart fittings are made of copper also but will use the older style XL jaws. Sell & have used both. No issues

Same experience here as Scott. Only one leaked & that was our fault. Did a Cheeseburger in Paradise restaurant with thousands of PP joints more than a year ago & not one single problem to date. Lots of hydronic installs too. Quickie ball valve install in a hotel to isolate a commercial water heater - no lost room revenue, which they really appreciated.

    ditto x 2

I have been using PP for over 4 years with no issues, other than operator error, to date. Hundreds of fittings, from new construction to service on old copper. I'll never go back.
