Wide-open chimneys

in THE MAIN WALL
Have 130-year-old house with 3 fireplaces and one boiler on two chimneys and no flues (wide-open brick chimneys). How do we go about choosing steel flue-liner vs "golden flue" poured flue . . . would like to do this in spring/summer this year.

    are the chimneys....

    in good shape? not mortar falling out r missing? if not a regular SS liner should be fine? Best way is to get a certified chimney sweep out. then you know and can rest assured...kpc

    Yes, there is mortar missing and chimney sweep told us we should not be using chimneys. One has a gas boiler and two fireplaces above it. Other has a fireplace in basement with a blocked-up one above. When the boiler fires up, air is pulled down and fills the basement with smoke, so we never use the basement fireplace. I wonder if anyone has any experience with golden flue after a number of years . . .
