What's the EDR for this convector?

You don't want to go by heat load on steam. If all the othe rooms are oversized by 40%, which is not unusual, and you size this rad to the actual heat load, you're gonna freeze!

I urge you to chcek out the "Library" resource up at the extreme top right of this page. There are tons of pictures and steam advice and you may see an identical shape and configuration rad - that you could copy and paste, or direct us to look at with a link, and solve the problem.

Things like large tube, small tube, Sun-Rad and column type are basic forms. The number of columns and shape of each one also is defining.

Give us what you have. Better yet, go buy a cheap digital camera and stop considering it. Just do it. Send Dan the bill (;-o)

What's the EDR for this convector?

Can anyone tell me the approximate EDR for the below described steam convector about 1950 vintage:
Cross section of fins is 8" high and 6" front to back, four steam carrying rectangular pipes run through the fins along the length of the unit, 2 along the top half and 2 along the bottem half, each pipe is 2" high and 3/4" wide (front to back)outside diameter, overall length of the unit is 54" but actual finned length is 47". I want to replace this unit with a cast iron radiator/convector of the same rating. Thanks. David

    Got Pictures?

Try posting some pictures. Overall, close ups of any manufacturer' logo or names. Look around the castings at the inlet and outlet.

Thank you Larry. I don't see any logos etc. and photos might take a while since I don't have a digital camera. Would you or anyone want to make an guestimate based on the description?

    re-size room

How about measure the room & re-calculate what is actually needed & see what is available & what what will fit in existing enclosure box.

    Replacement Radiator

Thank you Bob Young. I tried your suggestion and got 9100 BTU on radcalc website and 6670 BTU on another site. With a significant difference like that how can I trust either one?
Are there any heating men out there in the Flushing Queens NY area that want to do this job? Essentially I want the largest radiator possible that will still work well and be compatible with the rest of my steam system.
