I saw this at their museum.
First one. It's from 1945, and it was used to pressurize water after the war, when so much of the European infrastructure was in ruins.Retired and loving it.0 -
1940's hydronic and steam book..........
Dan,
Nice pump picture.
I have found a book on hydronics and steam written in 1940. If you look at a few threads further down, I believe you will find the info. I asked you a question. Do you have or want to make copies of the book?

First WILO Pump - 1928
Yep, actually called a hydronic circulation accelerator!
Dan, did you get a chance to tour the pump building? Sorry I missed you!
One heck of a show to say the least...0 -
Old stuff
Further to my last post, it would be very interesting to have addition photos of the old stuff posted from various manufacturers. As an example, if memory serves me correctly I believe ITT and Armstrong used to build belt drive inline pumps! These go waaay back.
Heck, I can even remember pre-telex days (we used to have amazing fights with the containers of the confetti left over from the tapes).
We live in a wonderful era of todays advanced hydronics. Great to be part of the industry!

I never got that far.
I was mainly in 8, getting my every-other-year Big Picture straight ;-)
The 44 of us were there for just part of the week, Steve, and then it was on to Denmark.
So many buildings, so little time.Retired and loving it.0 -
RE:
Dan,
Here is what I wrote,
Today I was helping my sister in law move her parents. Tom (Her father) told me about his dad who was a heating contractor way back in the old days. He handed me one of his old books and told me I could keep it. The book was well worth the price of my labor to move him. I skimmed through it and the book answered some questions that I had when looking at some old steam and gravity hot water heating systems.
The title of the book is 'Questions and Answers on the Practice and Theory of Steam and Hot Water Heating by Robert Starbuck. The book was considered one of the bible's for heating men back in the day. It was written and published in 1940 before the invention of the Amtrol diaphram expansion tank. Right around the birth of the pumped hydronic systems. The book was well known as the Starbuck grey book way back then.
It has many chapters on all types of old systems, good pictures and diagrams also. Many good sizing charts for all the systems. The book has chapters on installations of
Gravity hot water heating systems
Gravity hotwater to pumped hot water conversion
One Pipe Steam
Two Pipe Steam
Vacuum Steam
High Pressure Steam
Circuit system of steam heating
Overhead steam
Overhead hot water
Circuit system of hot water heating
Expansion tank (how to best locate it in the attic)
Indirect domestic heating
Theory
Forced Circulation hot water heating (this chapter was new for 1940 and was the cutting edge)
Its awesome!!!!!!!!!!

That is a wonderful book.
I'm pretty sure I auctioned my copy on the site at some point. I don't see it up on the shelves.Retired and loving it.0 -
Hi Ya Dan
Sorry I missed you. I had my eyes peeled all the time.
The group I was with got there late on Thursday and we were off the schedule the rest if the day.
As you can see from my pictures on the other post, I had a great time with the Buderus People.

You're right, Steve
Bell & Gossett did build belt-driven circs way before ITT swallowed them. They appear in the 1940 B&G handbook, which I have around here someplace...
I also have a New-Old-Stock Taco Perfecta circ, one of the first wet-rotor units.
