    Hypocaust...........

    C Butler,

I have a picture of a Hypocaust on my web site.

    http://www.comfortableheat.com/roman_heating.htm

These systems were built two thousand years ago. Slaves built huge fires and the flue gas ran in a crawl space underneath the tiled floors. Flue pipes ran up all the walls so as to spread the heat across all of the floors.

Back then all of the rich nobles had this type of heating system in all of there bath houses.

The average guy had access to public bath houses in all of the major cities. They loved radiant heat.

    Hypocaust

Take a look at this link:
    http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/lostempires/roman/builds.html

These guys re-created a roman bath using the same design concepts you are working with. There was a link to the streaming video of this show. About 45 min. long & well worth viewing. Otherwise go to PBS & buy the dvd. It is well worth viewing. Good luck!
