calculating heat loss for a room thats not square?

I do each joged square as a seperate room and add the results togeather. Where there is no wall treat as an inside wall in the program. An inside wall has no insulation and most programs I've used enter that value as 0.0

If you have an irregular shaped room,.. I calculate the area manually if the ceiling is all the same level. Irregular room with an irregular ceiling, I create an imaginary straight line and make the ceiling level, then do the ceiling seperate figuring the area manually. Using the imaginary line as eated space below, and heated space above.

Most likely my method involves throwing a simple equasion out the window and over complicating things WAY too much, but for some reason, thats how it works in my head.
