I got to see...

I had the privilage this past week of meeting two " Greats " ...Steamhead and Ron Wheeler. I am 20 years in the local HVAC industry , I have worked on some very large projects in this area with manufacturer's technicians and such ( Trane , B&G , Carrier , etc. ). I have to say that I felt like I was dealing with manufacturer's reps. with these 2 guys , only they deal with many brands and models of many components.
I bought 2 Gorton number 2's from Ron...he has a room full of steam and hot water " specialties " ( he probably has boiler return traps new in box , lol ). I stood and watched these things work this morning ( cold boiler and pipes ) ...they vent ALL the air from the mains until the main is hot enough to remove skin from your hand , lol.
Steamhead came over on Saturday ( my house ) and showed me how much I don't know about oil burners and steam boilers. He has to be the best burner tech I've seen , and ( if he doesn't already ) should be like a Powerflame " ( larger power burners )rep or something. And I will stop complaining about the " Cycle Gaurd " until I get the other crap fixed ( we watched the water vanish from the gauge glass...that's a new problem this year ). I will be a skiming and draining machine next week for sure , lol. This man has no questions about any scenario that may occur in the operation of a system...he is " one with the system , he is the steam in the pipe "..period.
Either of you guys ever need anything , let me know. Maybe I'm " amazing " with a gauge manifold and a volt meter working through a wiring diagram that's 5 ft tall , lol. Thanks again - Mike

Glad to help
I'll say first that I know burner techs who can run rings around me, but maybe someday I'll reach their level. And even Gordon and I have to ask for help sometimes. The day we stop having to do that is the day we stop learning and growing.
Mike, I think you have what it takes to have your own full-time business, and you're certainly in an area that will benefit from your expertise. I'm sure there's lots of steam in the Charles Town area. When you decide to do this, take advantage of the SBA/SCORE seminars, and get in touch with Dan to get a Find a Professional ad. It will be some of the best money you will spend.
Let us know how you do.

distance
He had to travel like an hour-forty-five min ...along with other outside factors I didn't even think about it , lol. We had barely enough time to lift the hood on the Coronet though...valve covers and intake bay-BE. " A brilliant Red Barchetta from a better managed time "....lol.
You know...after meeting Steamhead , I could picture him turning up a shot of real dark boiler water or no.2 fuel over a quality bourbon , lol. I see him as a non - drinker seriously. I know one thing , after watching him , I worked harder today. - Mike1
