I am in the middle of a fairly large system install 18,000 sqf waterfront home.

The entire home is radiant mix of everything slab, quicktrack and so on. My main powerplant is geothermal 7 or 8 small heat pumps staged with backup boilers, 200gallon indirect and swiming pool heat.

The pool is indoor/outdoor there is a retractable wall but I must have a dehumid system in case they dont open the door. So part of the geosystem will be operating in cooling all year to dehumid the pool room.

My plan is multiple heat pumps and two large buffer tanks probably 300 gallons one will store chilled water one warm. I will draw off those tanks as needed with a mix of pumps and ZV's.

Some rooms need suplimental heat from Air Handlers and some dont. We also have wood floors in alot of the home but given the water temps from the geo slab temps arent much of a concern. Water temps are all 115 deg in heating and 45 deg in cooling. The AH's will supply cooling there is no radiant cooling in home. But the same coil in the AH that does suplimental heat will be doing cooling. So my plan is a motorized valve in the mechanical room.

I could wire the system just with end switches and aquastats but thats not what the home demands. I have looked at multiple systems they all have pros and cons but none jump out at me.

The homeowner is a simple person doest want difficult stats. His current home we also did all radiant and he loves the heat but, has told me he doesnt want those stats in this house. We used wirsbo stats a mix of them all depending on need.

I have used teknet4 before but if I give them the same stats again he will kill me. I just found a system online called HBX controls out of Canada has anyone used them before. Or does anyone have any sugestions. The mix of geo and hydronic can be a wiring nightmare so I want a system that can adapt and maybe even be reprogramed if need be.

Goethermal / Radiant / Air Cooling and Heating Etc - Controls

I have an identical (almost) project. Mine has a bowling alley lane :)

Please contact me on Monday - maybe we can put our heads together on the controls etc. I will be doing the mechanical room mid April. All the drilling has been done, radiant installed - air handlers with ductwork done.

    18,000 SF waterfront home

sounds exactly like mine except different including the location.

    :)

Not sure about HBX, but I remember reading here that they are a Tekmar competitor. I have no experience with them at all.

My larger response is, have you considered a heat pump dehumidifier for the pool such as a Pool-Pak? Use the pool water as the heat sink and heat it in balance with dehumidification? Just one suggestion instead of rejecting to the earth.

Quite a project (quite an understatement).

My concern is about all of the various types of radiant and response times, final temperatures to each (I assume not all will use the 115 F water but may blend down locally from that single common high temperature.) Direct motorized valves should be fine for AHU's given lower mass and faster response times but the slabs will need a bit more finesse. Good PID control will be essential. I am thinking along the lines of a full DDC based system such as Automated Logic, not to say that HBX and/or Tekmar cannot rise to the occassion. Just a lot of application-specific things that may benefit from a more global orchestration.

The pool room we are doing something like the pool-pak. I was also concerned about respose times I am even considering constant circ in some areas but still up the air. any sugestions would be great. Ow and they want to sheetrock on Monday.

    HBX Controls

I am a rep and use to be an installer and I just took on HBX. We have sold a few ECO-1000 controls for Geo and so far the contractors love them. I have been told by many Geo contractors and manufactures that no one has a control like this one for Geo. It's look is like Tekmar but some nicer features. How do you plan on mixing? They do injection mixing only. How many mixed temps? I have a 5 port mixing valve that increases the effective amount of heat out of a buffer tank. I can help you on this if you are interested.

I dont need much mixing I did my radiant design around one temp of 115. But would like any help or sugestions you have. At this point no piping in the mechanical room has bin done. So I am open for any sugestions
