I got a call today where the customer wanted a second opinion that the compressor was bad on two year old trane
heatpump.

I arrive to find the breaker off at panel.Turn the breaker on and put in heat mode.Hook up the guages and found low head
and zero back pressure in heat mode.

Switch over into cooling mode and high/lowside pressure looks good.Switch back over to heat and suction drop to zero.

Found expansion valve. Bulb lost it charge and the valve fail closed.

Its not the compressor? No, its a bad expansion valve.
How much? It will be this much to install the warranty valve.Also I would like to set you up on a service agreement as well.Sure he replys, where do I sign?
