    Just inherited 5 Glowcore Boilers

Just inherited a customer with 5 Glowcore Boilers. Where can I get info on these things. Got a customer that has 5 of them in a row. Are there any manuals for sercicing these things? (none on site, of course)

I checked the Virtual Trade Show, but came up empty. Is there a parent manufacturer that I need to look up?

    memory check

As I recall, Glowcore evolved into Trianco, which was
incorporated into Laars. You might check with Laars to
see if any of the old info is available thru them.

    Checked the website

It seems to be not much more than an empty shell site.

The boilers I have are GB160 A1, and GB160-14 units.

I would appreciate any info via fax, email, or snail mail. The units are currently working, but often do not run correctly.

  • I have

all this stuff Al, lots of the info your looking for, but I`ll have to fire-up the scanner tonight and get it to ya. I`ll send Email OK?
BTW- If I dig around I may even have a few new igniters too as I also "inherited" the service on a few of these pieces of junk!

    Glow Core

Correction: Glowcore wasn't affiliated with Trianco. Laars did buy Trianco in 1998, but we're not affiliated with Glowcore.

Before you get in to deep....

How did you happen to inherit these units? As mentioned above they are very problematic and should be replaced. Did the last servicer insist they be replaced? Did the customer fire him because of it? You may have a headache you don't want nor need. JMO. Bryan
  • The ones

    I "inherited" have been replaced, in Al`s case,,,well he`s a big boy.

Justy got in to the office.

Going through the board before I check email.

    Will let you know.

I cannot thank you enough for your help.

I "inherited" these because we were the only contractor that would provide a properly sized gas line for this guy's 45kw (yes, forty-five) generator. We had to remove a 1" gas line and do a 3million btu meter upgrade. The customer liked the fact that we acted as "GC's" and handled everything, including the utility liason work.

I commented that I have only seen, but not worked on the Glowcore units. He asked me if I would like to be the service guy. I told him yes, as long as I could get some info and had a source for parts.

There are five units. Two are older orange units, and there are three newer red and white ones. They look simple enough. Could be a great learning experience.

The house is about 10,000 square feet (very rough guess)with a mostly glass roof, and the customer says that even in single digit temps, he only use sat most, three of the boilers. He other two are spares.

I see no control that stages the units. It seem that he does that with the service disconnects.

I'll ask more questions after I read up on them.

    Thanks again!

    Give me time!!!

The customer says that the units are very reliable. There is only one old blower unit tucked away under a shelf.

At least I'll be there when they finally needd to be replaced.

Till then, I'll service them as long as it is financially practical for him.
