your best bang for the buck would be to get siggy's or some of Dan's books, take that 2 weeks and study 6 hours a day.

you are not going to learn much working 2 weeks for someone.

    interested contractors please respond

i'm an apprentice whose majority of work has been servicing hydronic heat systems, and installation of the same. i am hungry to learn everything about this industry and due to the fact that i have two weeks of paid vacation approaching i was curious if there were any heating contractors out there who would be willing to take me on as help for a two week (possibly more) period. i would love the opportunity to learn how things are done in other areas of the U.S.. I have only been out of Colorado once in my life and have never been on a plane in my life, but i still can't imagine a more rewarding vacation than spending some time working with other highly respected contractors. I have spoken with my current employer and he backs me fully on this possibility, he feels, as do i that there is no better way to learn than taking the initiative to do it. I am willing to go anywhere in the U.S. providing that plane tickets are remotely feasible (having never flown before though, i have no idea what that is). i have all hand and power tools, and would like nothing more than the opportunity to come and work for some of the best out there.

If anyone feels that this is something they would be interested in please post a response here and maybe we could work something out from there. thank you so much for your time.

A few questions. Are you in Colorado now? When is your vacation? How much do you expect to make?

    dave,
thanks for responding, i can take my vacation anytime so long as i give my employer some notice (naturally). i'm over on the west slope about four hours from denver. i hadn't even thought about going over to the east slope but that would seem logical, saves me a plane ticket. i also have family there and that's where my fiancee hails from, i'm sure she would love to see some friends. i currently make thirteen an hour but money isn't particularly what i'm after so much as the new experience and knowledge to be garnered. thanks for the reply please keep in touch if you are interested and maybe we can work something out.

    thanks

I thought your idea was a good one, but J-P has made me re-think things a bit. Going to Dan's class or Siggy's would probably be a better bet than working 2 weeks. And if you've never read Dan's books, that would be the place to start. I was already installing radiant systems, and later bought a a few hundred dollars worth of Dan's books which was the best education I could have gotten. To work closely with someone else could potentially be wonderful, but two weeks is a pretty short time to get experience, especially since you already have a lot of basic experience. Maybe what you really want to do is MOVE somewhere and work for a different great company for a year or two? I wish you well. Kevin
