immense power of this trade

I would just like to take this time to thank all of the employers involved in this trade for taking the time to share all their knowledge to those young individuals, (such as myself, the in's and out's of what i consider to be one of the greatest professions on earth.)

i feel the need to explain my emergence into this trade and what it has done to change my life in hopes that maybe other young and lost individuals will not give up hope for finding a profitable and fulfilling career. if you will please keep reading because this trade has been an opportunity and a godsend that i feel i will never be able to repay.

When i was eighteen years old i was one of the top-ranked high school wrestlers in the nation and continued my career into college. wrestling was the only thing in my life that kept me stable. i did not drink, smoke, or participate in any activities that would harm my endurance. i wanted only to have a career in wrestling. no other career ever crossed my mind.

in my first year of college however a previous knee injury reoccurred and ended my dreams of wrestling for a profession.

I began drinking and smoking heavily. I dropped out of college and went through almost ten jobs in two years. I will honestly say that at least six of these job terminations were alcohol related. i spent two years of my life in a drunken haze. i will honestly say that i spent no more than a week of these two years sober. the reason being that I was to young to buy alcohol.

well i am now 22 and it was a year and a half ago that i was given an opportunity by a hydronic heating specialist for an apprenticeship position. within one week i knew that this was something i could do for a living. within 6 months i knew that this was something i WANTED to spend the rest of my life doing. it was my new passion. i began spending countless hours of my own time learning hydronics and plumbing. i would spend entire paychecks on new literature and tools that i could call my own, all in an effort to LEARN. I have not touched hard alcohol in almost 8 months and although i still drink some beer here and there i have not been drunk in almost six months.

i feel that with every passing day i continue to learn more and enjoy my life ten times as much as i used to. it feels good to know that not only does my employer have faith in my abilities but that i do as well. a good majority of our new installations are piped solely by me and my confidence in this trade has been greatly increased by my want and need to go to work in the morning.

i apologize for the lengthy post but i can't enough those of you who are willing to take the time to teach young, stupid, and cocky individuals. without people like you i cannot fathom what my life would be like now.

thanks so much,

theprentice

    Inspiring Self-Awareness

Nothing lengthy about that post, 'prentice. To know how I know is, I ask myself, "what would I leave out?"

    Not a word.

You are still young and that is meant as a compliment and an encouragement. You seem to have a good grip on reality and where the other roads can take you. Never lose sight of that. Keep doing what you are doing, ask questions and take personal stock daily, not to give unwanted advice.

I for one appreciate what you have written, for the refreshing honesty and internal vision.

    Best,

    Brad

What a wonderfull way to start

the Weekend. My congratulations to you for what you have done for yourself. Yes you recived a chance from a great employee but YOU are the one who has bettered your life.

We all make mistakes, we all stumble and occasionaly we all need a hand. Whether or not we take that hand, say thanks, and keep on is the true measure.

    Good Luck and stick around.

    Scott
