Check the manifold pressure of the gas valve and make sure it hasn't crept up on you...very common. Other than that...some of them just do that.

    Polaris troubleshooting

Hello all... I have a Polaris water heater that has performed very well for 11 years. It is not starting well. It sputters for about 5 seconds before firing and running smoothly. I recently replaced the ignitor (6 months ago). The previous ignitor lasted over 6 years, so I don't think that is the culprit... anyone have any ideas as to what the likely cause may be?

I run it at a high temperature (about 155*) as I know that a low temp operation can cause trouble with premature ignitor failure.

Many thanks for any ideas and thoughts you may have.

    11 years old?

could the tank have a small leak into the combustion chamber?

The factory support team has been very helpful when I have a trouble shoot question. 800 456-9805
