easily serviceable, minimal maintenance..sounds like they can fail just like anyone elses..wanna save 20%? just keep up on your steam trap maintenace program..don't neglect it..then it won't matter who the trap maker is..i prefer monash and sterling myself.

Has anyone used this kind of steam trap?

I got a call form a salesman today saying I could save at lest 20% on my fuel bills by putting this product in all my schools. But, everything that I have read says that you don't make those kind of promises on steam. Plus, they say this kind of trap is one that has a life time garantee? Doesn't this sound to good to be true? So, it made me wonder if anyone here has used them or has any data on how they have really preformed? The company is tech-fitt here is there web site: http://www.tech-fitt.com/

If anyone here has used them could you please forward me any information that you have on them weather they really work or not?

    thank you

    Sounds a little gimmicky

As Gerry said, ANY trap maintenance program will save the client $$$$$ and work better. If said building has lots of blown traps, 20% could be a very realistic savings. What is a "lifetime" to them? I've seen many a trap still working after 40-50 years and the radiator next to it with atleast 2 replacements in the same time period. Mad Dog

    I agree with Mad Dog.

Traps are critical to the longevity of condensate return stations and combination boiler feed pumping stations. In a decent sized school, it's not unusual to have a replacement station run 50K!

It's a lot cheaper and more system economical (fuel saved) to replace traps by area on a regular basis. "Guts only kits" are under 20-bucks a pop. Have a pro or a really competent boiler operator in the school district get trained by a pro in how to test, service and stock the trap guts needed.

    That's VERY cost effective approach

I am a pro, I do steam trap suvery all the time. In industerial and commercial situations I was just trying to verify this peoduct. I just did seven schools this last month in a half and in one found 103 steam traps put of 165 not working properly. Now I am putting a bid together for replacements and the school district asked me what I thought about these valve so I thought this would be a good source to find out about them. Now, I am a little sorry I asked.

I am a pro, I do ultrasonic steam trap suvery all the time. In industerial and commercial situations I was just trying to verify this product. I just did seven schools this last month in a half and in one sholl alone I found 103 steam traps not working out of 165. In another school I found only steam traps working and the one side of the building that was not heating was because of the broken steam main pouring steam into the tunnel. Now I am putting a bid together for replacements and the school district asked me what I thought about these valve so I thought this would be a good source to find out about them. Now, I am a little sorry I asked.

    Larry,

In the very first sentence of the lead post, you wrote:

"I got a call form a salesman today saying I could save at least 20% on my fuel bills by putting this product in all my schools."

We logically assumed you were the facilities manager of a school district.

I am puzzled as to how the responses would in any way have you write:

"Now, I am a little sorry I asked."

    Care to elaborate?

Did you look at my last sentence.

    Ken:

Look at my last sentence, all I was looking for was anyone that had any information on this subject. Not poeple who would respond and tell me to get a pro.

I thought this was a broad for education. Maybe I am wrong but I don't think so! Dan sells education and set the wall for the purpose of education weather it is old or new.

Likewise, this is a good source for new technology. So, I figured that someone may have come across this company. I know orfice traps can not handle verying loads and they claim that it is not an orfice trap but everything I have read so far shows that it is. So, I was hoping someone could explain it better.

Have you ever dealt with these kind of traps before? If not then you should really keep your opinion to yourself. Unless you have something useful that can help me verify this product. Because that is all I was trying to do.

What are we doing here people? STOP! No need to pick a fight.

It looks to me that you can save 20% if all your current traps are shot. Makes sense. Any new trap should do the same thing. I doubt this is some kind of miracle product, but I have been wrong before.

    I haven't seen these, Larry.

Did he explain how they work? I'm not clear on that after looking at their site. Thanks.

    I chose to

look at ALL the sentences. Sorry.

I would suggest the fact that no one here has ever heard or seen this trap - may have some significance to your investigation; but then, I am so wrong so often on so many topics, you obviously need to dismiss anything I write for what it is.

    Worthless.
  • Looks like they make

replacement innards for existing traps. Anyone for a small pilot project to see how well they hold up?

That is what I am wondering if any one as done a polit job

    Steamhead:

That is what I am wondering if any one as done a polit job yet? I know the schools I work with are thinking about it. The saleman can give a good pitch for the product. I did find out that it is a type of orfice trap that has multible orfices in differant locations that allows a bult up of condenstate which is intriguing but that is about all.

    It sounds like...

the infamous orifice trap with a twist...or labyrinth if you will(their word for multiple orifices). Orifice traps, like insurance policies, are sold and sold hard, not bought. Beware, orifice traps, in general, are inferior. Heed Mr. Tunstall's warning.
