    Some of you

may remember that I mentioned a solar project that I would be involved with. Well....it's on.

Brief history. HO called me asking if I would install the material he purchased from an infamous i-net company. After we chatted, he asked me to design a system and give him a quote. I did, and he accepted. House is SIPS panel, slab on grade, post and beam, small loft area, 2 beds and a bath on the upper level.

Main house is RFH in concrete. DD according to ADS calls for 87° water,(infamous i-net co. called for 140°). Upper level (3 rooms) heated with hydro-air system designed around 130° MAX water temp. 2.5 tons cooling and Arzel zoning. Life-breath HRV.

HO asked if we could use his solar collectors to heat the home. YUP!

The house is going to receive LOTS of attention. "Solar Living" magazine, NYSERDA and a few other alternative energy groups will be using this home as an example. HO tells me that there will be tours of the home. Almost forgot, PV cells as well.

Well, the licensed plumber that is doing the job has not wiped a joint in the 50 years he's been in business. (I'll post pics soon) More solder on the floor and on the pipe than in all of the joints combined. "Plumb"??? HAHAHA!

Solar dude. Installed a drain-back tank he salvaged from another job. Looks hideous. (Again, I will post pics soon)

Point is, I STRIVE to do the neatest job I can on EVERY job. I am embarrassed to have my work in the same house as the other guys. The plumber has been "plumbing" longer than I have been alive. Shouldn't he know how to solder? Shouldn't he know that a sanitary tee is not supposed to be used in a horizontal position as a drain?? How about a crown vent? Shouldn't he know that they are illegal?

The solar dude supplied the 120 gallon solar tank. 4 taps on top. He ran his drain back tank return DIRECTLY over the cold water inlet to the tank!!!! 3/4" npt off the top, he puts a 3/4" brass union and a 3/4" st.90 and runs directly over the cold water npt. Old brass fittings that I think he got at a garage sale. Drain back tank looks like it was rolled down a flight of stairs and has permanent marker all over it. Pipe dope that looks like it was SPRAYED on.

I have to tie in to this.

    "Guilt by association"????

The framer stood watching me work this am and asked, "How come your pipes are shinier than the other guys?" Even the framer noticed. Oh....and the HO noticed too, AND the builder, AND the electrician, AND the PV guys.

    What would you guys do?

Tomorrow, I am going to get a t-shirt that says, "Does not play well with others".

This is bugging me to no end.

Rant over........for now.......but I am coming back Monday with pictures.

    Oh Mr. Dewars...................

    Do what you do best

Tie in as you would and TO YOUR STANDARDS. Label the piping "Comfort Mechanical, Inc." Let the solder boogers belong to their creator. Show the contrast and make it clear who did what.

Remember... Flowers sprout best in \"fertilizer\"

    Mark:

You are getting the wrong shirt - and the wrong quantity...

So get some "Comfort Mechanical, Inc." T shirts. Nice ones two.

Give one to the framer, the electrition, the PV guy, etc, and tell them that you appreaciate the complement....

Who knows what jobs they are bidding on - and if anyone ask them if they know of a good heating company.... You want them to remember you.

    Dont feel bad...

i consider myself to be the most pathetic plumbing company in the world *~/:)

i am so sad at times as i am making excuses for myself something i distain.

remember, none of us is perfect...therefore ,if you manage to put a small wowee in a system ,it will always remind you of that fact.i have to think that it helps to think the best of those who are working around you ...that way maybe others will change what they are doing to what you would like to see in professional work. i Know it is a strech...it Could Happen. :)
