    heat zone hammer

Installed hot water baseboard heating system with four zones and on one zone when t-stadt is satisfied and zone valve closes there is some hammering. Never ran into this problem before on the many installations I have done. I have tried a few things to cure the problem and they haven't work. I am baffled. Can someone please lead me in the right direction?

    heat zone hammer

Heating system was installed in two story modular home so baseboard and kickspace heaters already installed. Installed a Peerless WBV-04 oil fired boiler. There are four zones. One for 2nd floor, two for 1st floor, and one for 50gal indirect water heater. All zones have Honeywell V80436-1012 3/4" zone valves on supply header ( 1-1/4 ). Return header is 1-1/4 and has a Taco 007 circ. The relay box is a Taco for four zones w/priority. The zone that hammers is on the 1st floor and is furthest away from boiler and is approx (from supply to return)100'.

Bruce. Thanks for your suggestion. I guess you have run into this before. Have you found it to be common with Honeywell zone valves? I use them all the time and this is a first for me. I will try your suggestion on the job this week.

Try Taco heat motor type zonevalves

To eliminate the water hammer from the fast acting spring loaded valves. The Taco 570 series zone valve closes slowly to prevent, or at least minimize the water hammer. For your reference I have attached the catalog data information. For additional assistance visit www.taco-hvac.com

Verify the direction of flow. The valves will be noisy if not correct.
