Need help with non-heating unusual question

I've seen (and used) lots of "non-neon" neon products, but none I've seen are either small enough or flexible enough to thread through the glass tubing.
I had an antique bar sign restored once. Any decent sign shop can do it. Quite expensive. I saved considerable $$ by bending the tube for the broken sections myself. Not difficult and you probably already have all the tools.

Wallies to the rescue?
I am the proud owner of an old neon sign that once hung proudly in my Mom's Beauty Shop many many years ago. The tubing is pretty intact exact for a few breaks. Is it possible to run some type of light string or fiber optic string through the tubes to produce a similar neon effect? The tubes are painted red and have not been retouched at all. It would make a very neat conversation piece if I could light it up.
Thanks, in advance.0
