Well now:)
There seems to be at least an awareness among Human Beings that we have worth :) This is small story Glenn... Jim who is in his late 7-'s now and who has since moved to an expanse in Montana, had his mom staying next door so he could make sure she got quality living going on in her remaining days.... he got her a nurse to stop by to burn some daylight with the lady on top of the time he and his wife Jackie would spend with ......the hospital was continuously trying to get her installed in some live in clinic here she wouldn't have been very happy ,away from her organ she liked to play for hours every day. it seemed that as soon as the hospital found out she had insurance all kinds of necessasary visits medications and the like were being pressed on her...She felt fine and so Jim basically said ,
'well we intend to pay cash and she doesn't want to go live in some squished up box eating medications she doesn't want like or need to enjoy a quality of life in her remaining days'.
Insurance to me is Like legalized strong arm, i would rather see Dr.'s who we paid every time we went there while we were well.then or if we became ill, the Dr.'s would pay us until we were well again.
It is great to see you are feeling much better and the stress of the whole deal has mellowed out. I for one am thankful to have made your acquaintance over the electronic highway. You are a True Asset to this community and having you back is just plain good for America :)

Here is something that I wanted to share with you!
On my latest visit to the Cardiologist I spent the normal alotted amount of time of about 15 minutes going over the results of Stress Tests, medications and Physical Therapy notations. Then the doctor happened to notice the shirt I had on with the Burnham logo on it. After discussing my position with Burnham and the merits of my job, he started asking a few questions about his boiler (V-8). It seems he and his wife keep hearing this annoying ticking and rattling from the area near the boiler at night. I asked him if it is more pronounced on windy days than calm days and he acknowledged that it was. I then discussed the finer points of the functionality of the barometric damper with him for a few minutes. I advised him to have his local oil company check it out for proper leveling and adjustment and that there certainly are better quality dampers out there that don't neccessarily act that way. After about 15 minutes of discussing this, he thanked me and I left.
Now bear in mind that this is my third visit with the specialist and each visit has amounted to about $150.00 for 15 munutes. I'm not complaining about that a bit because I am feeling much better and he responds when I need him for anything. I just got a bill summarizing the last three visits and the amount I owe after Health Care Provider dispursements when I happened to notice the amount billed for the last visit. He made an adjustment that wiped the cost of the last visit clean to an amount of zero. It's nice to see a person like the doctor acknowledge that someone elses time and advice may be just as valuable as his! I have to tell you that I'm impressed indeed! My faith in mankind and humanity is once again officially restored.

Yes, Indeed.
Glen,
I spend half my life trying to sort out the gentlemen from the scrounges in life. A bit of effort spent seeking the true good guys out there makes life lots easier on the soul.
Nice to read of this good stuf going your way, 'cause you're one of the good guys.

Nice
That is indeed a very nice response.
I have a friend in this business who has taken to setting his service call rates based on what his local doctor charges for an office visit. Seems oddly fair.0 -
I''m a little
ashamed of myself, Glenn. As I was reading your post it was obvious to me that he billed you for the second 15 minutes.
What a wonderful Doctor. Thanks for sharing.

A lawyer
once asked me what I charged an hour when he was helping me collect a bill. I got the check for my services when he won our case - minus his fee - the exact same amount I charged an hour at that time! I didn't notice that at first and he told me I wasn't charging enough per hour. I gave him some flack about what lawyers charged and he suggested I look at my bill. We both got a chuckle.
Maybe they're relayed!

Me Too
I too thought as I was reading he was going to bill you for your services. Guys like this Dr. restore my faith in the society we live in.
Glenn good to see you back, a year ago I had a catherization, failed angioplasty and was put on a few meds. We are fortunate to have the medical technology of today.

Good doctor, good Burnham boiler
Your story has a very nice moral lesson to it, and it makes all of us feel much better. Glenn, I hope you do too and I wish you all the best with your health.
My father had the same kind of experience once. At the dentist, the doctor was busily chopping away at one tooth when everything went paff. Lights out. But my father had his Swiss Army Pocket Knife -they found the offending electric relay and hot wired it considering the emergency.
I remember him coming home from the dentist with the broken part. Later that afternoon he went back with a repair part which he had. None of the other patient ever realized what had happened. No cancellations needed, it was seamless.
My father got lots of free dental visits on this deal. Sadly his heart stopped ticking too early in life. We need to take good care of ourselves.

Good for him!
All too often folks are overcharged and probably overmedicated due to insurance. When I was discharged from the hospital in New York State they had me on 8 different medications. I've been balking that too and now I'm doing just fine with three. One is for diabetes, one for cholesterol and the other is a blood thinner to keep everything in balance so this won't happen again. Thanks for the kind words and for sharing your story with us.

Hi Leo
I ended up with three stents, two in one artery and one in the other. Odd part was that my cholesterol levels were really never alarming and I have them tested quarterly due to my Type II diabetes. Problem I guess was caused by a severe imbalance brought on by the diabetes. Threw my bad cholesterol sky high and the good type in the gutter. Triglycerides also went sky high along with the glucose levels. Talk about technology; when I left the hospital in New York they sent me home to Rhode Island with a DVD of the procedures, before and after for my Cardiologist here to see and review. How cool is that? All is in check presently so I'm back to work with very limited travel for the time being. I guess you never know what lies around the next bend!

As we all know (or should), the service business is one of high standards, and low expectations. Doctors, Lawyers and a lot of other folks know this too; at least the good ones do. Trying to divide people into categories can lead you to the Doctor's office. Still, I do greatly appreciate the good ones who stand out, and try not dwell on the occasional Jerk; although it is one of the perversities of human nature that those least deserving of respect and consideration always seem to demand the most. The rest of the time I just try to show up, do a good job, and get paid. In the immortal words of Hunter Thompson, "We are, after all, professionals."0
