Is the Burnham MPO made by Buderus?

I was flipping through a trade publication and the similarities are undeniable. A reliable source said Buderus make them and private labels them for Burnham. Any truth to this? Makes sense to me since Buderus is the number one boiler manufacturer in the world.

    MPO production

Buderus does not manufacture the sections for Burnham. I'm sure Glenn Stanton (WELCOME BACK GLENN!!!) can provide accurate information about the birth place of their sections. Thanks,

The MPO boiler is not made by anyone except Burnham. It was designed in house and is cast in our own foundry in Zanesville, Ohio. As I have stated here and at other sites on numerous occasions, most cast iron 3-pass boilers all resemble one another. What makes them different from one another is the flue passageway design, methods of water flow through the castings, assembly methods (iron nipples or gaskets), controls, burners and the cosmetic features such as swing doors and flue cleanout plates. Hope this helps.

While I haven't used an MPO

It's design looks rock solid. It doesn't offer the number of sizes that can be had between the G115 and G215 series.
Burnham looks like they want to make cleaning the MPO a breeze with the rear clean outs. I like the duel returns making the install of an indirect easier to pipe. I also prefer the top mounted supply manifold for probes, aquastat, and piping over the rear piping all the other 3 pass boilers use since it usually gets to tight back there on most piping set-ups. Maybe it doesn't have a proprietary Logamatic style control, but I'm fine with the stuff Tekmar puts out.

I'm just holding off until Riello burners get approved. I want the best burner on a top of the line boiler!

    I heard that too

I also heard that Buderus designed and builds the Burnham MPO and Burnham puts their jacket on it

The question you have asked is a difficult one to answer...particularly from people at the manufacturing level. Speaking for Joe at Buderus and for myself and my company, we would both have to say the same thing....that ours is the best! What makes any product better than another is a few things. First is the level of confidence that you have with the manufacturer of that product, second is the working relationship that you have with the manufacturer of that product and third is the support that you receive from the maker of that product. In taking into effect all of these factors we have both excelled. We have both stood firm behind our products, have strived to build and to maintain relationships and are here to answer your questions and to address your needs on this web site and others.

We each strive to make ourselves better than the other in both support and product quality and consistency and that makes for a very healthy and competitive business environment for both of us. There are only a small handful of manufacturers that can make those claims. If you are not neccessarily familiar with either of our product offerings, we will both do whatever is neccessary to make you comfortable with our products. That's our job, our goal and our committment to this industry! Let us know what we can do for you and we will be more than glad to help.

    Thanks Guys

Quite a few of you have privately emailed me and the continuing theme was Buderus is tried and true with a long history in the field.

This type of boiler technology is new to Burnham and to wait a year or so to make sure the kinks are worked out. Better safe than sorry. Thanks, Buderus it is!
