zone valve heads popping off

I know the same contractor installed them all, maybe not the same individual though.Basically, there is 108 apts. at the site with 3 different buildings. They came in and replaced all the base board heat units along with new zone valves. The only thing else I can think of is the base board cover is a heavy duty one piece cover with the top sort of coming down at an angle. On some of them, the inside of the b.b. cover is touching the top of the zone valve head.Don't know if that has anything to do with anything.I was thinking the valve's open/close action might be forcing against the b.b. cover and over time somehow loosening up.I can't see how but I guess I'm grasping at straws at this point. Thanks for the reply, and any other suggestions would be appreciated.

    zone valves

Got a call for no heat today for an apartment where I work.It has 2 zones controlled by Taco zone valves with the heads that twist off of the valve body.Found both heads seperated from the valve body and just sitting on top.Turned down t-stats waited a few minutes and re-installed heads and everything worked fine.I had this happen in a couple of other apts previously. What causes this to happen, and what is the solution for this other than just putting them back on ? -thanks

    Taco Zone Valves

From a very quick outside view, it appears possible that the power heads were not reattached properly after the valves were installed. Just a guess. Same installer on different jobs??

The cause might best be described as pilot error.

It is a relatively simple matter to install a taco zone valve head. it would be best to determine who placed them into operation and run it by them a couple times.really the boiler and all zones should be cycled before picking up the tools...that gives one a chance to check them one more time before leaving just for G P's :)

I also have seen the newer gold taco zone heads oosen up for no apparent reason, the older ones seemed to have a better grip

    Taco valves

I think Johnny nailed this one. There are two shoulder screws holding the actuator on the valve body, and if one was broken it would be blatantly obvious, and no need to guess why the actuator was off the valve body. Incidentally, I’m assuming the valve is the 570 series, and not the ESP valve which is similar when removing the head with a ¼ turn.

These things don't just come off. Got a little tenant problem I think. Put some duck tape around it, not over the control knob of course, write your name on it, be sure the wiring is working ok and explain it to them, slowly. Install new t-stat, a simple off/on round and explain it to them, slowly. This has never happened to me on senior housing or language challenged situations, but I've read about it in books.
