We have over $12,000 worth on ours. We stock the most popular parts along with some institutional stuff that is not real popular, but will not be gotten easily in an emergency. We do hvac with a fair amount of boiler work. Residential, commercial and some institutional/ industrial. We do mostly 3 brands of h&c equipt. with a lot of general thrown in. We use 1 ton Grumman step vans (Chevy chassis) with one Ford E-350 and one F-350 Reading body.

  • Truck Inventory

We have just gone over our truck inventory for our fleet for the end of the year. Our Sr. service tech has about $6000.00 of inventory on his truck. This truck does heating and cooling service work as well as night calls. We service oil, gas, electric, and geo systems. We do air, water, steam, humidifier, and IAQ service. My boss thiks this is a lot to be on a service truck. I do not agree. The other service manager and I think there is nothing wrong with the amount of service parts on the truck(I think it is on the lite side). Does any one else have figures that they could share with me on the dollar amount of service and repair parts on their trucks.

    Stock

Before I specialized into one brand, I worked for a service company that was the one to call for ANY brand. We had parts for everything. Because I was rural service, he did not want me running to the wholesalers often. I had (from my inventory when I left) 37,682.00 (I kid you not)in stock on my truck.1 run a week except emergencies, if the cust was paying ravel time)

Currently I have about 4000.00 in parts, (heating only) Tools are seperate

I think your guy is lean if you do all that. The 37+k I had was for all that too, but for all brands

  • We handle plumbing jobbing and alterations and full line heating service including oil and gas service and installations .
Our newest vehicle(Stahl 12'USV body on GMC) of the fleet carries nearly $28,000 in materials and supplies, minus tools .
    Vans carry half that .

There was an error rendering this rich post.

    No Way

We are in a rural area so running back to the supply house for a part means a trip of 50-80 miles and 2-3 hours of unrecoverable time. We stock a lot of parts on the van including draft inducers and other special non interchangable pieces. Our work involves all brands of hydronic equipment, forced air and AC, no plumbing stuff whatsoever.

We just installed new Edstrom racks and bins in our Sprinter last month and I did a rough count while filling it up. I had guessed around $4,500 would cover what we were carrying...........WRoooonnnnnggggg! Try close to $10K. I am planning on stocking additional pieces and parts that will likely tip the inventory over $15K.

(BTW if you want a GOOD rack and bin system e-mail me. I can sell you Edstrom at a really good price. Shipped directly to your door anywhere.) Pics are of the van and new racks about 25% full.

    service truck stock

I would say we carry appx 10 - 12,000 in inventory on each of our trucks. We do air and water heat service. We probably have close to 3000. - 4000 in just B&G parts on board. Add Honeywell flame programmers. Circuit boards gas valves and pilots for furnaces. Blower motors, direct and belt drive. Pilot assemblies, Ignition kits, ignition modules. Pressure switches, inducer fans of different types. Could even be more $$$. Don't make me think about it. Tim.

    What costs less?

In upstate NY I need a good inventory to service 24 Hour needs. some customers are 45 min from home and could then need to drive to other side of the county. Always thaught productivity was lost as a parts shager. Nothing to say how the customer feels to stay cold while a Tech. makes a parts run.

If you would like a list ...

of the universal service parts we have to help you lower truck inventory, drop me an email. I think you will be suprised at how may redundant parts can be replaced using the "universal replacement" concept that we have been developing over the years.

    Truck stock

We have three trucks on the road and just like the rest of you we service it all.We are clicking over gross vehicle weigh on all and inventory is in the 12,000 dollar range and you know we still don't have it all. What we have come up with is 3 other HVAC contractors that are like us so we call each other if we don't have it and replace it for them. Bets going to the supply house all the time. This is good also because we get a chance to share some tech talk with each other.
