watching that on The Today Show this morning. Wishing I was closer & able to lend them a hand.

I never disparaged being a "step-father" and we had a great time in Scouting, which gave us an opportunity to work/play together without other family members.

    Days like this

come but once a year and, sometimes, but once a lifetime.

As a "step-father" (God, how I loathe that term), father and son, this was a great day to bask in the warm glow of love that binds us in a common cause - fatherhood.

Those of you who are step-fathers know the challenge we face (faced) is/was well worth the additional responsibilities you willingly accepted on the altar. It's been a great ride & that torch will soon be passed as the son will soon be adopting and facing the same challenges. My first grand-child will arrive from China within the next few months! The anticipation is killing us(G).

When we wanted to get married, I first asked her father for her hand in marriage. The second man I asked for her hand in marriage that day was only eight years of age at that time and as I told him while just the two of us sat in the kitchen that evening, if he said no - the marriage was off.

What a great day this has been.

    What a very lucky

young man he was and is to have a Dad like you Dave.

My Dad told me, any man can be a Father. Not every man is a Dad !

He could have gotten a man who would not have shown him the love and respect that I know you do.

I hope you had a Very Happy Fathers Day.

    Your Friend Scott

    thanks

and back at-cha. The younger one, at 18, wrote a very nice note in the card, which rounded out the day perfectly.

We'll be playing in Mark Eatherton's back yard next week! Big family reunion & we're staying at a ranch that's evidently close to his home.

So, what'd the young men in your family do for the big day?

    Step Fatrher <?>

    Dave,
How nice you sent that. and placed it upon the wall. Father's day here is somewhat hurting, as the second of two 11 year boy Scouts has dissapeared in the wilds , about 80 miles east of here. One last year has never been found, and Friday eve, the second just became inivisable. there were 3000 seachers looking for him yesterday. Had I been ambulatory I'd been there. The Scout camp is a very happy place. Done a lot of plumbing there.
Do no disparage of being a step Father, as your in super company. i.e. Joseph, the Saviour's step father, showed us how that important position is and was!
