Are you sure that it wasn't just a case of cheap merlot that blew up in the basment? It would be pretty tough to get that stuff everywhere otherwise!

    wow this thread took off

Who would have thought a little purple primer comment would have sparked a debate. Here is my two cents... Mr. Yates is correct, I also heard about the fact that the clear thinner is actually minutely stronger than the purple stuff because of the dilution w/ dye. However use all the primer you want, unless the male end is de-burred the cement will simply be pushed out of the socket...fact. (now I sound like firedragon)

    Cosmo, your 100% correct

of course the inspectors can't verify that so imho ,they will settle for seeing the purple primer as verification that the plumber did it right. Cynical I may be, inspections in the end are not about protecting the public's health, they are a revenue generator.

    plumbing pics

I took the pics of this sweet job. No, there was no inspection done, yes, almost 60% of the joints leaked. Over 25% of them popped apart in my hands when I went to chop it all out.So much for purple primer, I think he forgot to use glue on over half the joints. I have repiped the house for the owners. (Thank God!!!!!!)

    .nightmare quality workmanship

This chump is a pathetic disgrace. i have done temporary stuff that blows this out of the water.no pride in work coupled with no mechanical knowlege should be a felony. and in n.y.c. this type of work could definetly put you in jail. this is a major problem with legalizing pvc. with REAL pipe this could never ,ever happen. the copper work is also a cruel joke.this guy should have his hands surgically removed.

    Unprimed joints...

come apart about 10 years after they were installed just from the expansion/contraction. If primed, the glue fuses the plastic parts completely and there are very few issues. There have already been lawsuits against the manufacturer of the glue. Expect more in the future.

    Great!

    Devan,
It looks like plumbing from our area. I think we need licensing right away if this type of work is taking place. Was this a homeowner or contractor? Is the other division of our company taking care of you?
    Enjoy,
    Rick
