    Massachusetts Plumbing code Q

Hey plumber guys, M 10839 here, what's the deal with the sillcock every 100 feet, does that include the garage? I haven't had anyone busting my chops yet, but I feel it coming. Some of these big garages are the size on a house in itself. Thanks for any help.

    silcocks

are you talking residential or commercial, i think every residence needs one silcock and every commercial building needs one every hundred feet. I usually install two silcocks per residence in the front and back and have never had a problem but most inspectors check for the one every hundred feet on commercial.

says every 100 feet for every building--- that's not good, I better invent a new clause for my paper work.

Here's what the new code book says :

" Outside house connections, sillcocks or wall hydrants shall be installed in all residential buildings no more than 100-feet apart "

    Thats from 10.14 (k).

The code book has been updated and I may have to read it for the first time in years :). Hey at least I'll be able to get to sleep at night.

Having added lots of sillcocks to houses, every 100' isn't much.

Very convenient to have one on any deck as well as right by the garage (the hot/cold variety are nice for car washing). Many people--including me--prefer a number of short hoses as opposed to a one or two very long ones. Good to have at least one each wall of any length. Good for watering and very convenient for cleaning gutters, etc.

    hose bibbs

Yes, it is 100 feet apart total outside dimension, so homeowner can cover whole house with fifty foot of hose. And we plumbers cannot go back for extra when the ho. realizes the pain it is to drag those hoses all over.
