    Victaulic® Mechanical-T® for Hydronic Tie-in

I have a customer that added an efficiency apartment in the basement of an apartment building. He did a very nice job too! However, he forgot about heat in the bathroom, what else is new? Now it's time to call in a pro,oh well! It had rads everywhere else but the new bathroom. Not a real big issue as I can install a couple of feet of cast iron baseboard without disturbing his finished work. As luck would have it the boiler room is right next to the bathroom. The rest of the system has CI radiators; my heat loss calculation says two feet of CI baseboard will be plenty. One boiler serves the whole building. It is hot water, newer, late 80’s, replacing the original coal gravity job in a two pipe system. It has 1-1/4” copper supply and return increased to 2” steel trunk lines. My problem is the space for a tie in for the new CI baseboard. Has anybody had any experience with or any thoughts on using Victaulic® Mechanical-T@ in hydronic systems? They are basically saddles. The problem is that I am limited for space, so I won’t have room to cut in tees, which I normally would prefer to do. The tie-in will be to the 2" steel trunk lines and reduce to 3/4" branches. These fittings are rated for the operating pressures and temperatures. I have used them on fire sprinkler alterations in the past. What do you all think on hydronic heating? Also, if okay, tap the bottom, top, or side of pipe? The trunk lines are at ceiling height and will drop to the new baseboard which will be at floor level with the boiler. amhwrite

make sure you use the rite gasket and after you drill the holes make siur you use some type of magnet to grab any metal filings that fall into the pipe.
