honestly it seems to me that the stress and strains that i laughed about when younger have taken on some definite reality of thier own further down the road.

i dont know how i can explain not taking advantage of Dans find a professional ,other than i have to be careful not to even attempt to do more than what Good man upstairs has for me to do as it is.

I have to thank God , for he who has already done all these things and covers us in that light. Everyone here seems to be on the mark with doing top quality work and making sure that the work continues forward ...the younger people probably think our perspectives sound almost too remote to attain or dont pertain to them, how to convey these things and their solutions is basically what the Wall has "going on "...each reply has some real strengths laced into them from experience and perspective changes that assure me that this stuff is normal enough .Sorry for Weebling out at the knees ...*~/:)

today i am walking around on the bottom of the apple barrel.

who knows what is is that just brings things to a standstill right when you have a schedule superman couldnt keep? my focus on helping seems to get me into major mind binds...small wonder a guy posted yesterday that he has reservations on continuing with the good work sell the shop let the guys go sell all the vehicles and work out of his home again ....even the replies were rolling thru my mind before they were posted...mainly the reason that i didnt say anything is because i dont have any plausable answers for myself let alone someone who has evidently been rolling with the punches for as least as long .

it is never something else, someone else ultimately you are the one who must be responsible. Being at effect doesnt go well with me,because on lifes highway it is better to be cause. on my way to work this morning to look straight ahead and do the work that my hands find to do.

there are no easy decisions to make right now.... i know many of you have found yourselves here it was part of paying your dues...maybe i just need some rest. or run go put in the platinum roman bath deck mounted faucet rough in......meanwhile the viessmans arrived in the afternoon... i guess i hate the deck mount the most...i need to pull my head up out of this apple barrel and come up for Air.

    if you could clone yourself

you could be in two places at once. but would it be any better? the weekend is here, it is time to stand still for a bit and breathe. sometimes the schedules of others must become our own, but as far a i know, you can still only be in one place at a time so choose where to be. maybe i'm wrong but i suspect that the jobs will still be there on monday. you sound like you need a break. i know it's the wrong time of year, but when are you going outside?

    Take care,

    Plumbing AND Heating

Sounds like you could use a break. From what you write here it sounds like you do both plumbing and heating. Do you also have guys working for you or do you do it all yourself?

I also do both plumbing and heating. One man shop. I"d like to just focus on the heating and say "I don't do plumbing anymore." I think it would make life easier.

    Weezbo...

A different perspective is called for and I have it in the way of a book from the early 1900s. May I have a mailing address for you?

    Yours, Larry

Hows that old saying go ?

" You can't be crazy because your talking about it " !

You need a break man. When was the last time you took time off ? If I learned anything in business its that the work will be there when you get back. If your so busy you can't sit down to .... Then take a break and re-group. NO ONE can go for ever ... on and on ....

If it helps remember that you have a friends here to talk to and that means your lucky cause your not alone.

Your a good guy, don't be so hard on yourself. :)

    army of one

Weezbo sorry to hear your stressing out but there's always a beautiful sunset at the end .I know i myself find it very hard to say no and i am only one guy with a one man show i mainly do a/c and heating only but i have done plumbing for years but never got my license and i have friends who are licensed plumber who i work for regularly and working with them i really see a higher stress level but i help them and they help me when i ask .i think we may be kinda alike i never like to ask for favors or help but always help others from service to installs and rough ins but just knowing some one will help me when asked helps bring my stress level down .Some times you have to re group and re align your priorities to help lower your sterss level and always remenber you ain't a god and you can only do what you can do in any given day and that doing your best is all you can offer .When i'm totally stressed i call my mechinical buddies and we work together and knock it out we all hate to see each other get stressed so we really joke and goof on each other in some real strange ways but we help get each other stuff done and sometimes even though it is not our job we push each other to get the job done .Here's a example i was installing a boiler just wendesday and at aruond 2;00 my buddy still didn't drain or remove the hot water heater and was stressing out had stuff scheledged out the next day .I started to drain and remove the heater he stressed even more not wanting to stay but we did it we install the indirect and finished the whole job 11 hours but it was done no going back his stress was gone .Find some good buddies and work together .Together you can do anything even relieve stress . peace clammy e mail me if you need to talk and relieve some stress RDEUZA@aol.com peace and don't be so hard on yourself STRESS KILLS

    It's the season!

to start getting a little goofy. I'm wondering if various systems I have installed over the summer will get GAS before freezing weather sets in.

It's always something. I'll bet a day off AWAY from work would help. We all get to this point with zero employees or 50!

    Chin up my friend.

Is it time to focus on just one trade? With todays complicated HVAC systems it is a full time job just staying ahead of the newest equipment and training on such.

I quit the plumbing side almost 10 years ago. Even in this very small hydronics market SW Missouri, I've found a market can be developed if you insist on just that.

Good luck, keep tuned in here.

    our season -

started quite some time ago. And like other posts - we too are now back to just one tech - me (and for all the previously stated reasons as well). We turn away almost all plumbing - concentrate on boilers - hot water and steam, then scorched air. The ability to say no thank you to a new customer is always hard - but it can be done in a professional manner. Time for family and other pursuits must be carefully planned - sit back and look at the next years calender - mark in all the stat holidays, time for family, maybe a fishing trip and then decide on some real time off (no cell, no email, no fax) stick to it and enjoy it. It's tough to do - gross incomes will suffer, but a happier tech will make for much happier customers. We are just finishing a 32 day stretch in the artic - but with planned family time - I won't be setting foot in the shop until the 13th (maybe). Will I pay for this - absolutely. I must ask though - is your business serving you and your families interests or are you serving the business? Give your kids a hug - often. It's too early in the season to stress out - take on the work that you REALLY like, do it well and enjoy your day. Cheer up Weezbo - Cambridge Bay froze over just yesterday - howsabout a little pond hockey????

Good advice. One more thing. All of you mention how busy you are. Be grateful for the business. There are a lot of people out there who wish they had work. Imagine Christmas coming, fuel bills sky high, a minimum wage job (or none at all), wondering how you are going to pay the rent and feed your kids. I see these folks every day.

    May I recommend

that you might want to get a physical exam and have a complete blood workup. Sometimes when working such hours with no end in site we tend to overlook taking care of ourselves, eating properly and of course, getting a good sleep. These things can mask health issues or even create them.

    A tankless bump

because I'm so tired for the same reasons you are, Wheezy, this thread cannot leave the board.

I hope Homeowners see this post, and appreciate how dedication affects pro's.

Wheeze, I don't know where you are, but if you could use a dude who can bend, solder, do all the electrical work, etc' etc' and knows how to listen, get in touch, my e-mail's for real, and I'm serious.

    Any advice?

So what advice do you have for a newbie on not burning out? I don't have all the stresses that you guys talk about, I work for a large corporation, so i know there is always a check. However how do you not consume yourself with the job.
This is my 4th winter in the HVAC field and people can't understand why I can't leave the job at the van door. They can't grasp that a heating job in the Adirondacks can consume you.

    You've got it bad!

but welcome to the trade. Couple of basic rules - your brain is a sponge, for it to function correctly - your eyes and ears must by kept open at all times - your lips however should be used sparingly. Soak it in!
