Hot Rod-renewable energy expo question

... when the local water utility offers a much lower rate on "lawn and garden" water vs. the stuff that will go down the sewer, perhaps it's little wonder that people do not feel the need to install cisterns and other means of putting that water to use.

On the other hand, also keep in mind that throughout the west, water collection may or may not be legal due to water rights issues, or at least so I have been told.

Considering how many people use AC in the US, another two, potentially even less expensive options are to retrofit a GFX heat exchanger and/or to install desuperators on AC systems to preheat DHW. Not only do you stretch the supply of hot water this way, you may also make the AC run more efficiently.

    Hot Rod,
I am going to the Bluegrass Energy Expo 2005 in Lexington KY this weekend. Is there anything in particular I should check out.

    http://www.bluegrassenergyexpo.org/index.php

I am totally new to the whole RE market. I know nothing about any of this. I am interested in solar-power, biomass, etc. I want to get the most out of this that I can. I am just looking for some direction.

    thanks for your help.

solar domestic hot water. More and more manufactures are putting together these ready to install systems. I think, by far, the most cost effective, easy to get into system would be a solar DHW preheat.

Domestic hot water is something most folks use on an everyday basis, pretty easy to get a return on investment with these.

Remember the 30% tax credits begin 2006!

Rain water collection systems interest me. Dave Yates brought pictures of these from the ISH show in Germany. Hate to see folks use chlorinated, flourinated water for lawn watering. As fuel costs soar, so will the cost of pumping and treating water.

Solar powered attic ventilation fans make sense to me. Anything to cut down on AC loads and run time.

My inlaws installed a half dozen small PV yard lights around their walks. Much better than forgeting to turn off the AC powered ones they have been used to :)

I'm sure there will be all sorts of homebrewed energy savers. Be sure to take pics and report back.

    Check out this link :)

Is anyone from the wall going to be there?I am thinking about making the 190 mile one way trip.. To check out some solar exhibits.. Thinking of ways to save on resources. (mainly cash)
I am not sure if my system could even benefit from solar hydronics. But if I can make a small investment over a corn or wood fired setup. I would be better in the long haul.Plus the 30 % tax write off could help us out too.
