After World War II porcelain enameled homes, called Lustron Homes, were built with radiant ceiling forced air oil heat. That's right no return from the living area of the home or registers. Found a web site on Lustron homes ( http://members.tripod.com/~Strandlund/index-5.html ) with a link to the Williams Oil O Matic furnace ad ( http://members.tripod.com/Strandlund/subStrand/oilomatic.jpg ) showing the furnace install. Nice bit of history on heating this rather unique style house. Only around 1,500 of these homes built.

    talk about

Wow talk about a blast from the past. I was going through the pages when it showed a pic of the Nutone fan. I can remember my Grandmother having one put in her kitchen and how proud she was of it. I think it is still there to this day actually....Thanks

White Castle Porcelain Steel Building Company

Not just hamburger, a building with it too.

It appears the two companies are related. The Porcelain Steel Building Company still exits, headquarters included.

These Lustron homes seem so exotic, it would be interesting to visit one. Sadly, it doesn't seem any were fitted with hydronic heat. Thanks for the neat post.

White Castle is big into powdered coatings too.
