boiler size

DOES SIZE MATTER, haha, my question is on size of boiler that is for 3rd stage heating(hydronic coils)and domestic,the heat load is about 82,000.domestic 1-70 gal.tub,and 3-baths.I was thinking a 140m with a ssu 60 tank.my concern is since this is for back-up heat could I get away with a 80m.coils are size for 120 deg inlet.any help would be greatly appreciated.thank you

Oddly enough, we are seeing a new trend in this industry: we have to size our boilers to match the greater of the two loads, which is now more frequently the hot water.
An SSU 60 should take care of that tub, but recovery time using an 80M may be longer than you want. A 140 will perform much better in that situation. Because it modulates, there will be no loss due to excess boiler size.
Usually in cases like this , going with the smaller boiler ends up with an " I should have.....".
