I want your ugliest hydronic pictures...

Primarily control wiring, but will accept poorly piped systems as well for my associate professor (Jim Eastman) that took over my hydronic class. We want to show these students how NOT to do piping and wiring.

I've threatened my students with tracking them down and super glueing all their fingers together so that the only thing they can do in life is shovel crap with their paddle like hands if I ever catch one of them turning out ugly work like we see on a daily basis:-)

There's no right way to do things wrong, and pride shows in your workmanship...

The 'Parsons5' shot shows an abandoned 'heat source'.

The p1010058 shot shows where someone replaced the boiler and didn't bother to reconnect the zone valves. After I installed circulators for each zone, they called me, almost in a panic. They didn't have any heat, or so they thought. It was finally quiet after 2 years.

here's some controls

first you gotta turn on one of the heat stats, then you gotta plug in the domestic side. After a while the water gets hot, but you gotta remember to unplug it or it gets TOO hot. It works offa temperchur differentchal or sumpthin.

The sad part is most of these pics where likely from jobs given to the lowest bidder. Customer might have saved a mere $1-2000. Are they overcharging or are we just not charging not enough for a professional job.

I almost died when I read that..If you eating anything do not open anymore pics...:) Here's a couple more...Best part of that other boiler is it is still that way. I was called to explain why it used so much oil. When I pointed out all of the issue's the customer told me I was trying to rip him off. Needless to say he's not a customer any more...

I understand your concerns. I don't ask for things like this very often, and I'd only do something like this for educational value. The wallies show their finest every day here on the wall. They are all very righfully PROUD of the work they do, Unfortunately, there are some people who have no idea of what craftsmanship really is.

A reality/gut check every once in a while does the soul good.

Thanks to everyone who contributed. I will show them this week in class.

It's been going on forever. Hers an example of what can and does happen in certain cases.
