Crack in upper part of steam radiator

JB Weld (available anywhere). Prepare the area VERY carefully. Use wire brush or similar to remove all traces of rust. Clean with a pure, fast-evaporating solvent. Force as much JB Weld into the crack as possible and cover the area feathering out to the sides.

Any idea what caused the crack? Steam rads aren't subject to freezing. Sure hope this doesn't indicate that the rad is highly corroded and nearing the end of its life. If that's the case, this won't be the first such repair...

    Steam Radiator

I have an old but beautiful steam radiator (12 sections). It is a one-pipe steam system. Near the top of one of the sections a crack has developed letting steam out and causing havoc with the valve. I do not want to have any sections removed, and I am looking for an epoxy/weld type solution. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Thanks Mike for the info. My only problem will be trying to reach the crack since it seems to be in a tough to reach spot. But, I'll give it a try. Thanks again.
