take a look at John Siegenthalers web site he has a program that will help you look at your heat loads and buffer tanks , you can change the size of the tank and look at the cycle times for on and off , and pick which ones is best for your system ,

    Geo Buffer Tanks

Can someone offer information, or send me in the right direction on these two questions? A) How do you size a buffer tank in a Geo system? Mine is water to water with five zones of radiant and 2 hydrocoils on it. B) A good scorce of tanks. I need five 1-1/4" tappings.

My current radiant system is not a "closed" system dure to the buffer tank. This causes some problems with air in my system so I would like to replace the tank. The tank rrently a 40 gal tank handling five heating zones and two cooling zones. It was suggested to me that the system may perform better if I added more mass via the buffer tank.

    Thanks

    More Information please

What size Geo do you have?

Why do you need five 1 1/4" tapping's?

What do you mean by..."My current radiant system is not a "closed" system due to the buffer tank."?

We install the following...EW020= 30 Gallon Buffer.

    EW030 & EW042= 50 Gallon Buffer. EW060= 80 Gallon Buffer.

The attachment shows how we would pipe it.

    buffer tank

I have a 5 ton geo. i have supply/return to the unit, return from the radiant loops and then two supply tappings. I think the tappings could be smaller as long as I maintain the two supplies to ensure flow.

    Thanks for the drawings.

    Thanks, I'll check it out.

  • can you link me to this? I've found the site (I think) but can't find this tank sizing thing I've been reading about.

    Thats because

Thats because you need to buy the software.

Hydronic design studio...does more then just buffer tanks.
