They unveiled these at the ACR show recently

it has a screen about the size of a digital camera. You can extend the optic cable to 30 feet long.

I've been playing around with it looking into the vent openings on some of the mod cons in my shop. A good way to inspect those "hidden" secondary HXers.

Next week I have to fish 6 thermostat wires up some sheetrocked walls from the basement below. It has a wire hook attachment to allow you to see and fish.

Be great for inspecting furnace HXers also. This will be a fun toy, er I mean tool.

I have some cave exploring to do around our area, should work great for that also.

    Ridgid SeeSnake Micro

I bought one two Mondays ago. I got to use it a day later to find a leak under a floor. A good investment, I saved my customer at least,$199.00 (the tool's cost,) in patching fees if I would have had to cut to find it! My Ridgid distributor got 36 and they were gone in two days! The standard kit comes with the unit, a probe about 36" long, and three attachments, and a carrying case. The 30' cable is extra about $40 I'm told, they are on back order (I'm on that list!) It's been a while since a new style tool excited me! Buy one!

  • A plumber friend of mine

who does not do heating, is looking for something to look into drainage piping. This is a great HH unit and can reach to 30ft, do you guys think something like this would suit his purpose?, or should he stay with the bigger unit?

I have the free scope that came with my Testo, and I have found more ways to use it than I ever thought I could.

Recently I was able to drill small holes in a customers ceiling to insert the scope looking for a burst pipe.

Also for inspecting to domestic side of indirect DHW heaters (inspecting through the aquastat well.

They are pretty usefull. I would never have bought one before, but now I would buy another should this one eventually break.

  • How is the resolution

Hot Rod, how good is the overall resolution on the picture?

I have a scope much like the Testo. It is an eyepice, and the resolution is only good up very close.

I'm looking for something better. This may be it.

    Thanks,

I don't know about the Testo

unit, but this SeeSnake actually has a camera and two LEDs on the tip. The manual lists the resolution at 160 X 234. It certainly shows a clear enough picture to inspect the coils in the mod cons, and flexiable enough to see all around.

I doubt it would be a replacement for a full blown sewer camera, but could work for small lav drains. Finding that missing diamond ring :)

Looks like it would be a great mechanics tool also.

It's a fairly affordable tool considering it's wide range of uses.

    thanks HotRod

Take a bow hot rod! I took a printout of the Pic you posted over to my supply house. Walked to my buddy salesguy and showed him the pic. He said the salesman just dropped one off. I picked it up and told him to bill me.
a little more pricey than mentioned here but still a bargain.
I hope to use it for heat exchanger inspections.

    Is it waterproof?

If it is, this is a blessing for us plumbers who could not get camera down small diameter drain lines.

    Testo

I bought a Testo like unit a year ago and want to sell it. It takes two hands to handle, can be difficult to control the camera end and doesn't have a very wide field of view. I saw the Ridgid one the other day and will be adding it to my tool box. Screen is very clear and it is a lot easier to use, let alone a lot less money.

    It's supposed to be!

Cosmo, the literature says that the camera end & cable are waterproof. The 30' cables and for that matter, the units are back ordered in our area. I still need a 30' cable for mine. But I have used the basic unit a couple of times since getting it, just recently down a curb box to locate the position of a curb stop. It works great. If they hold up, I think they will become a basic hand tool!
