Regular Vent vs Quick Vent

on whether he's talking about the radiators or the steam mains. If the former, he's right since over-venting a rad can cause banging and spitting. If the latter, look elsewhere.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of using quick vents to vent the main and the risers in a one-pipe steam system? One contractor recommends using a triple quick vent on the main and double quick vents on the risers. The other said he does not use quick vents, just Hoffman vents with bigger holes.

    You have to know

how much air is in the pipe to be vented, and how much air the proposed vents will pass at a specific pressure.

What are the lengths and diameters of the pipes in question, and what make, model and quantity of vents are proposed?

OK. Not being a professional, I'm not sure I know the answer to those questions. But one contractor said that he never uses quick vents. Is that a reasonable position to take for someone who does this kind of work? I guess that is what I really want to know. I trying to figure out how much weight to give this judgment or difference of opinion in deciding between contractors.
