Blueray in ( you guessed it ) a closet - Ron Jr.

I will find my breaking point and walk off a job like this . If I wasn't there with Phil or someone with his experience , I would've made this a 2 dayer . This was in an absolutely beautiful home in Jericho , NY . White tile floors blending into white carpets all the way to this " closet " . The homeowner finished the basement after the boiler and Bock heater ( to the right ) , were installed .

There was not a thing we could do through the bigger doorway so I had to squeeze through the 2nd doorway to get to the burner area . To service the burner you had to actually stand up straight or reach around the zone piping from outside that 18 inch doorway .

3 zones and the Bock stayed in place . Good thing because the heater will not come out even though we moved the new boiler as far to the wall as possible . Whoever finished the basement decided to pick up a few more sq. ft. of living area and enclosed the heater on 3 sides . Oh well , not my problem , man :)

Kenny did us a solid and stopped by to help when he was done with his boiler . That is one thing we always do - call the other guys to see if they need a hand . You never knoiw when the pay it fowards will come in handy .

Nice job (as usual!). Keep raising the bar...but 1 day?....With a great team like you guys are, possible. With inexperienced "help"...NOT! Chris

    There's

not a house in Jericho under 700K. And they go for a steel dry base boiler? I bet the TV went for more than the boiler job!

    Touchee' Robert!

The biggest difference?.....No one sees the boiler.

In most cases, the car in the driveway that they trade in every 3 years(average) is MORE important than the device that makes them COMFORTABLE, in their LARGEST investment...but no one SEES that ! Keeping up with the Jone's is far more important tha SAVING MORE MONEY than the Jone's...apparently.

The smart ones figure that out...as for the rest, Keyspan Lilco, National GREED and/or Con Ed thanks them....monthly. Do I need to say anymore? Chris

Are the other guys other contractors or do they work for the same company. Here it seems like every contarctor is out to bad mouth or stick it to the next, at least in the heating profession. I do not understand it. It is way cool that you guys help each other.

    Lemons

Ron, I would have walked on this one for sure. Someone would hav had to remove a wall.

You definitely made some sweet lemonade from that sour lemon of an equipment room.

Still doin 1 a day here also.

    JOE....

That's what this site is all about.

We are a very large family here. We help our brothers and some even give advice to homeowners. The best advice we give to the homeowner sect...is to contact a professional. To our brothers and sisters, we tell of situations that we've all run across...and the ways we remedied them. Experience is, and will always be the best teacher we will ever know...

Passing the knowledge forward is one of the benefits of being a part of the family...but you've got to "Pay it Forward" to be a true member. Be it on or off line, you've got to get to know your family.

Our esteemed host has brought us together in ways that would boggle the corporate minds, yet for some strange reason...I know heating professionals from around the world...because of his vision. I've met folks 1/2 way around the world...that knew OF me by my moniker, and were glad to finally meet me.(the ultimate compliment!)

Internet is a worldwide thing. HeatingHelp has been showing up at the top of inquiring searches as #1 for quite a while now...and Dan has much to be proud of. I'm not sure about the language/translation barrier...but I do know that all major search engines show it first when searching.

If you don't believe me, peruse the board and I'd bet dollars to donuts that you'll find anything you need an answer for...using the SEARCH feature.

Give it a shot...and welcome aboard. The stupidest question is the one that goes unasked. NEVER forget that. Chris

    Blueray

Wow, I haven't seen one of those in 15 years. Kinda reminds me of the story Dan tells about the cucumber in the bottle. Some job.

    Nice job as always

I think for Xmas I will buy you a shoe-horn. I have never seen so many installs in such tight places. I will be coming down to the NYC Big Ugly, I look forward to seeing you there and buying you a drink!

Actually , they had 2 louvre doors and a duct that went outside . Much more freah air capacity than we normally see in these homes .

    Thanks Michael .
  • You wouldn't believe

the expletives I was murmuring back and forth to Phil when we walked in this home . We had a tough job the day before and I was still sore . But once you get over the shock of another crappy little boiler closet and resign yourself to the fact you're working OT no matter what , it becomes semi-ok .

    Thanks Chris .
  • Thanks Norm

    Not just a shoehorn but

some Vaseline might be in order for that one.

Ron, your work in close confines is worthy of a calendar. A pocket calendar in keeping with the spirit of the adventures.

I can only imagine that you make your connections on the exhale then come back out for another breath. A time lapse video of you in action is a must... :)

  • Robert , that aint the 1/2 of it

A brand new Mercedes to drive to and from work and a weekend Cadillac SUV in the garage . I know that ain't an apples to apples analogy , but it shows they might have had some disposable income for an upgrade . We give good - better - best options but its always the customer's choice . I'm just glad we can get in there and do a through service in the future .
  • Kev , there's always gonna be better choices

MPO , Buderus , Ultra , EK ..... the list is growing .

The pics do not really show how tight this room was . Any triple pass boiler would not fit well in there . I hope boiler makers start realizing that tight spaces are becoming the norm . A triple pass cast iron top flue , front or top port boiler would definitely get our attention .

    Thanks Kevin .

they may not have a Viessmann, but they got the "Viessmann" of installers! You should get hazardous duty pay for some of these, another beautiful job as usual.

The other guys are my fellow employees . We do have one or 2 guys who never call around and ask if we need a hand . So when we know they got the hardest job of the day , they go on the " pay no mind list " .

We don't badmouth work done by others to the homeowner . We let our work try to speak for itself . This particular homeowner wasn't impressed . Just kinda ticked we took so long to finish . Oh well , I didn't lose sleep over it .

    Thanks Joe .
  • I seen

some of the places you work in daily . This woulda been a piece of cake early day for you and the boys . Thanks alot Al .
  • Ken D

Where are you located ? There must have been a HUGE push to sell these things on Long Island . I think it's the most common newer boiler we replace on a steady basis from leaking . The worst part is taking them out of basements that have been finished after the fact . We did some damage last week taking out the larger model from a basement with 2 very tight turns at the bottom . The boiler was 26 inches wide by 28 in depth . Next time it'll stay and be cut out .

    Thanks Ken .
  • Darin

I think Levitt was an inspiration to other builders over here . If he could put a boiler under the stairs , on the floor in the kitchen , even hanging in the kitchen , why would anyone else need more precious room for the equipment ?

First few drinks are on me buddy . This is gonna be a blast . Thanks alot Darin .
  • Hahaha

that's funny - on the exhale . That's a good idea with a time lapse camera . I have a few gift cards from X-mas and my B-day to buy a new camera . I'll get one with that feature if they make it .

Thank you Brad , I appreciate your reply .
  • Thanks Robert

The scariest part was tilting the boiler out of the room on the handtruck . I lost my grip on the boiler and it almost slingshotted onto my foot . For such a short boiler it hase some weight to it .

    Hey Ron

Did you get my return email about the cameras?
I ask, because I received the same email twice from you.
