You are right. It's piped wrong. And the copper should go. Your fuel bills will probably improve when this is all corrected.

    OK, so this

is how my header, & takeoffs look right now. I just moved into this house last month. My question is should they look like the red outline that I drew in to help carried over water go back to the boiler and not to the main? Or does the copper pipe elbow that comes off under the middle of header to the equalizer take care of this just as good? Will this type of set up cause other system problems like wet steam? Was this done just because it was easier?? Also, while I'm talking about copper pipe, all of the pipe in the silver insulation is copper. Should I replace this with Steel to avoid headaches down the road??
If the red diagram I drew in is wrong, any suggestions?
Just trying to get a game plan together before I start looking for a pro to "tweak" my system to perfection.

    The best advice....

Is to find the DIRECTIONS that were supposed to be left with the appliance, and go by the manufacturers instructions.

They've had gobs and gobs of time to play with the piping and have tried (probably) almost all the "hair brained"ones out there for themselves. Then they publish the directions with the ones that work the BEST. When in doubt, read the directions.

If you can't find them, contact Peerless for a set. I'd be willing to bet that they will send or email you some. Chris

    Easy answer....

    YES !

Could last as long as the boiler...but why take a chance? You know when it's going to break, don't you? The coldest spell of the year, on Saturday, late morning after all the supply houses close for the holiday weekend.(usually) Chris
