As we were replaceing and OLD Thatcher Steam Boiler, my friend and I were discussing the possible age of the Rectangular 5 section Cast Iron beast. He thinks it is the 1920's and I say 1940's. I think the the square edged metal jacket indicates to me that it is post stoker and the old oil burner next to the beast could be original. One # on the unit is 37767. Of course the current owner says that his uncle was told that it was pre-1920's other #'s are B5x and 8-14 or B-14. I've down loaded Thatcher info from this site but no matches. Any other referance tools that would be definitive??

Jacketed square boilers

were being made in the 1920s. Typically, if there are no unions in the main lines leaving such a boiler, it was original. If there are, it was probably a replacement.
