    it is a very nice flick. Bring the kids and have fun. very faithful to the book (havent't read it in about 8 yrs so I think it was) For anyone who cares

    I first read it in the early 70's. I know they were put together in the 40's, and not sure when first published, but I am thinking it was the fifties or early 60's. They have been out along time. Tolkien was working on rings at the same time, but they didn't get published till late 60's in this country, a little earlier in uk.
