Slant Fin will soon introduce an oil-fired (#2 low sulfur or even K-1) cast iron, triple-pass, wet base boiler without low temperature limit. It can't recover heat from condensation but it's designed to deal with it when it occurs. [Not sure that I'd use it without temperature protection in an extremely low temp system like tube-in-slab but from what I've seen I wouldn't hesitate to use with nearly any emitter.]
No miracle yet--it's not modulating--but it DOES have what appears to be a FABULOUS control system. AFUE around 87 (I don't give the "number" much credence but it HAS THE CONTROL!!!
Indoor temperature modified outdoor reset with adjustable indoor influence. The controller is DESIGNED with constant circulation in mind. Use ONE nicely engineered zone or preferably TRVs. Set a reasonable reset slope (USER ADJUSTABLE). Adjust the "indoor influence" of the indoor temp sensing controller and you have AUTOMATIC control over heat authority!!! Will certainly take some "tweaking" by the USER to balance between efficiency and response, but the "suggested" setting for the installer tends to the response side of the equation...
If you must however install it in a multi-zone system using valves or circulators you put the control unit in the boiler itself. You still have outdoor reset, but you loose the indoor modification--instead of constant circulation you choose between "circulation with thermostat(s)" and "circulation with firing". Considering you've already perverted the essence of the control system by using multiple on-off zones "circulation with thermostat(s)" is assumed with "circulation with firing" only used in "special" circumstance.

Disclosure
Noel gave me the "heads up".
Having ZERO experience with oil I can't comment much about the boiler itself other than the general design [seems] to be what is most preferred--triple-pass, wet base.
It's the control system that really interests me. Design for it with constant circulation in mind with any "zones" via TRVs and it should prove awesome. More "Americanized" than the Buderus RC-10 with an overall efficiency that approaches a well-adjusted Viessmann Comfortrol while still allowing for changing desires of the occupants0 -
Something that intrigued me greatly is that the controller (when remote mounted in living space) has a "calibration mode" for room temperature with suggestion to calibrate such to a reference thermometer.
If you've installed the sensor in a space like an interior hall with no emitter who says you can't "calibrate" the sensor as a reference to any proportionally maintained space in the structure. Hmmm.. Find and measure the "average and proportionally maintained" temp in any given space and you effectively move your reference zone without moving the controller.0 -
Thanks for looking it over, Mike
Here's the boiler. It's availlable now, in some locations.

Slant fin
I was always told that slant fin had an excellent tech school. BUT and I mean BUT, the only slant fin in these parts are sold thru home depot. Customers of the orange box will be telling you what the boiler costs, or better yet. They will have it uncrated in the basement and have you hook it up for them for $500.00
Now thats a deal!
I have been called atleast 5 times on boilers from the orange box that the homeowner could not get fired off. then I was told that I should submit for waranty to get paid. NOT!
As for the boiler, it does look very interesting.0 -
Eutectic Series Boiler
To All:
We at Slant/Fin are extremely proud of our new boiler. As with our entire line boilers, this Series will only be sold through wholesale distribution. Two of our boilers do appear at Home Depot. These products are not sold to Home Depot directly by Slant/Fin. They are redistributed by other parties. The Eutectic Series as well as all of our new products are not allowed to be redistributed.
We look forward to hosting educationally formatted seminars on the new control options and technology that is involved in these products. In the mean time, please do not hesitate to contact any one of our representatives on any questions you may have.
This is a great forum and I feel lucky to be able to participate in it.
Best Regards,
Bob Flanagan
