The TRV body is in the enclosure--the TRV operator is outside the enclosure. Note that virtually on the floor is not the best place to sense room air temperature as it's often influenced by drafts as the baseboard pulls air across the floor. A TRV actuator with a remote sensor is probably better.

trv baseboard bypass pipe
In Dan's Heating Q&A he shows a sketch of a bypass pipe on a basebord unit with a TRV. It makes sense of why a bypass is being used but the sketch has me confused. The TRV is shown completely enclosed within the sheet metal enclosure. Shouln't it be out the side and,if so, running a bypass pipe would look awful, what am I missing here?0
