Steam Pressure Gauge Question

Hi. I have a steam boiler (gas heat) for my steam one-pipe radiator system. When I turned on the heat this year, there was a lot of banging in the pipes, and my pressure gauge is always set at zero. I think that in the years before, the gauge would register at between 2 and 5, so I'm wondering if I was just imagining things or if something could be wrong with my system. My heat bills have been through the roof this year as well. Any ideas?
Many thanks,
Susan

Pressure
Sue if your gauge is still functional and your control is set properly ,in the worst case, you should build 1.5 lbs of pressure max until the boiler shuts. Now if you are fortunate and your system is well balanced and sized correctly you will see only ounces of pressure max and your boiler will shut on the thermostat setting not on pressure. This low reading can only be read with more accurate gauges. You say you system saw pressures of 2-5lbs that is NO GOOD. You need a pro to come and evaluate the problem.0
